Welcome to the world of Graphic Novels and Comic Books.
What makes a graphic novel or comic book? Is there a difference?
let's read as many as we can and try a new genre.
A comic is a book with a very little amount of wording. It is cartoon pictures and there is usually alot of: Pow! Bang! etc... With comics or graphic novel you tend to see alot of talking in speech bubbles and in small sentences. I like comics. Lets get started!
Comic books have loads of pictures and little wording. The words bang, boom and pow show up alot in comic books and graphic novels. Ive read a few graphic novels and my dad used to have loads of Asterix books. Lit club is fun, you wouldnt usaully look at Nursery Rhymes and comic books in normal reading :)
normally short with very little words but lots of pictures.Words like boom bang pow and those words often show up.Lit club is very fun i really like it but i am not sure if i want to be in the actual 8 people but that may change!!! (:
Kerrin and Ashleigh, I'm glad to hear you enjoy Lit Club :) It is great to read all sorts of different genres. You can learn a lot while having a good time. It doesn't have to be hard to be educational. You will build up a strong base of general knowledge while enjoying yourself:)Where else can you do that?
I agree all with Alex Kerrin and Ashleigh. Most comic books are very short and have pictures, and don't really have words. Graphic Novels is more a book or a movie created into a kind of picture book. Picture books and graphic novels are pretty much the same! I think the difference is that picture books are more for younger readers, and graphic novels are for older. By the way, I do like the Lit Club idea. I think it kinda prepares you for high school where you have to read books that you might not like! I wonder what we are doing next?
Yeah it does Ash, Ive finished my Graphic novel already. lol it was really short and eays to read but hard to understand. Reading another one now. They are pretty cool.
Hugo Cabret looked intriguing, didn't it. I bet it will be a race to see who can get it out next. We will have to have a booking list like the library in Rangiora. The next topic will be interesting. I have been researching and finding out stuff! You will have a lucky dip in week 9!!! Shall we have another quiz this week?
LIT club is really fun. i have enjoyed the books i have read so far for lit club. the quizzes are my favourite.
A graphic novel is a novel which has been shortened into pictures and there is usually not much writing except in speech bubbles. it can be a series of books or just a single book.
A comic is a strip of pictures with speech bubbles. they are not a book. they are usually funny and quite short.
I agree to everyone who likes the Hugo Cabret. I looks so COOL! I can't wait till I get to read it! I think we should have a quiz. I think we've only done one. We should do more! This is a Lit club and quizzes would be awesome. Also preparing for the big Lit Quiz!
OK quiz it is on Wednesday when everyone has presented their findings from Graphic Novels. If enough people are ready we can start presenting tomorrow. I will do an individual quiz so I can begin finding my preliminary team members!
That quiz was a bit hard. I'm pretty happy with my score, and I wonder what this research and lucky dip is all about? Is it a new topic. I can't wait to the quiz tomorrow.
P.S: Please do not comment about forgetting the author of the Time Machine! :)
The quiz tomorrow is on Fantasy, horror and graphic novels! I hope you were all listening today to the reports and feedback. Next week will be fun,it is a new topic. Some people will have to up their game and work instead of slacking off... I wonder who is feeling guilty and who is feeling confident they are up to the task :)
Unbelievable! WHO doesn't know who wrote the Time Machine? Not even the person whose job it was to read it?... :-) It is great to see how you are all blogging and sharing your comments on different genres. The next week will be very interesting and you will certainly find out a lot of information about authors and books you have never heard of. Happy studying - I have just registered 1 team for the Lit Quiz in May, so work hard and enjoy reading!
